The rap and hip-hop genre, due to social media, has been gaining more and more popularity as it allows people to easily share their thoughts on a genre of music rather than word of mouth. For this reason rap is almost seen as mainstream to a teenage audience as many people listen to it whether is is openly or if they do not share their music interest with others.

The history of rap/hip-hop is most known for artists like the N.W.A, the Wu-Tang Clan, Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. Lots of the most famous rappers, with the exception of Skepta and a few others, come from America but are yet still loved by audiences in the UK and other parts of the world.

The music videos tend to be a little stranger and more explicit than music videos from other genres, that could be what makes them so appealing. The videos below have differences, despite being part of the same genre; but what they have in common is that they are interesting and compelling to watch. The content of the music video depends on the message the artist is trying to send out, for example the video by J. Cole tells a story, whereas the video from Tyler, the Creator tends to be more arbitrary.
