Double Page Spread Analysis - Q

The first page of the double page spread that relates to the main image and main cover line is dedicated to one large photo of the band and a synopsis of what the events prior to the interview were regarding the band in question. This is eye catching and would encourage people to read on as this band may appeal to some people's interests.

The second page has a range of images and a pull quote to engage the reader, and also marks the start of the interview. The reason for starting the interview on this page and continuing it on the next page is to encourage the reader to continue looking into the magazine. This page also has a large drop cap, which will catch the eyes of those flicking through.

The third page has large images throughout the page as well as lots of content for the reader to study. Above the middle image is also a pull quote regarding the article on the same page. These images and pull quote are to bring attention to the page furniture and also break up the large body of words. Without the images there would be 4 columns, this is the same for the second page too.

The page furniture used in this piece is a drops cap which will catch the attention of any flicking through the magazine, this will then encourage them to read through the rest of the pages. Drop caps tend to take up around 6-9 lines. The large amount of photos are also a design element meant to catch people's interest, and then may sway them into reading the DPS. The style of writing if formal as it is writing about the band and and interview with interwoven conversation throughout; much different to the DPS of Kerrang! where it is very informal. The pull quotes have their own box, which means this will likely be the first thing people see when they turn to this page; this means it will interest the reader, as well as the images also presented on the pages.
