House Style Analysis - Q

The masthead of Q being presented in the top left corner of both the contents page and the cover of the magazine (Seen below). Another house style aspect that is present throughout the magazine is the use of space and images. Large images are embedded throughout to catch the attention of those flicking through the magazine, this is an effective way of ensure that reader is interested and engaged by the large and vibrant images in the articles. Images are a big part of Q magazine's house style, as most of the aspects seen below contain images that take up a large quantity of the page. There are also pull quotes in the articles which are presented larger in order to get attention and encourage the reader to look at the rest of the article. Much like Kerrang! there is no image of the main band presented on the cover in the contents, this would be to make up for the lack of other images on the cover; this conveys the effectiveness of the use of space and images that is seen in Q. The sophisticated and 'less is more' approach works very well in this magazine, and makes the pages more interesting to look at and take in. The colours red and blue (different shades) are present throughout the magazine in all aspects seen below, these colours make up the house style as well as white when there is space free.
